Research Director at Notpla

Louise is Research Director at Notpla, developing sustainable seaweed and plant-based alternatives to traditional packaging materials that disappear naturally, giving consumers the convenience of single-use, without the plastic waste. Winner of the prestigious Earthshot Prize, Notpla are famed for their edible liquid packaging, Ooho, their takeaway box coating and single-use film sachet replacements. To date, their solutions have already replaced 2.8 million pieces of single-use plastic from entering our environment.

Louise is a Chartered Chemist with a PhD in materials science (QMUL) and a master’s degree in chemistry from UCL. Louise has worked as a research portfolio manager with EPSRC (now UKRI) and as a materials scientist developing waterproofing coatings for electronics with Semblant (now HZO Inc). Louise was previously head of R&D at THE UNSEEN creating the world’s first prismatic colour hair dye with Henkel (Schwarzkopf Professional). Louise joined Notpla in 2021 with the ambition to harness nature for the creation of truly sustainable packaging products.
