About the competition

The Emerging Technologies Competition identifies and supports chemistry-led technologies. 

This exciting event provides a valuable platform for early-stage start-ups, spinouts, and academic entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations and gain exposure that will enhance their visibility and attract potential customers, partners, and investors.

We particularly welcome applications who are led by; women, from Black and minoritised ethnic backgrounds, identify as LGBTQ+ and/or belong to any other underrepresented groups.

Entrants from the UK are asked to complete an online application covering: 

  • What is the problem your technology is addressing.
  • The market opportunities and potential impact of the technology.
  • Your approach to commercialisation.

The judging panel, who have experience in innovating and helping launch chemistry ideas to market, will select the 24 finalists to pitch in person at the competition pitch final on 4 July in London at the Royal Society of Chemistry’s prestigious headquarters - Burlington House.

At the pitch final day, the four winners, one per category, will be chosen by our judging panel.
